This month, we’re celebrating the City’s favourite lunch trolley: Engel’s unique menu-on-wheels, which showcases its vibrant, fun-filled approach to these classic German delights. If you’ve found yourself back to work and pining for summer indulgence, well — all is not lost. Hit up our resident 20s-inspired Berliner bar and restaurant to make lunchtime marvellous.

“Our famous brats are on the move,” says Engel, “now we’ve introduced our shiny new hot dog trolley. There’s a new menu of globally-inspired dogs alongside the classics, including Der Hot, Hot, Hot Dog, topped with raclette cheese and Korea’s famous super-spicy Buldak sauce.” It’s a joyous flavour explosion — guaranteed to banish blandness from your lunch hour. Try, too, Der Japanische Dog, with teriyaki, katsuobushi and spring onion.

Our favourite? Of course it has to be Der Elegante Dog (pictured right) with truffle mayonnaise, melted Gruyère, fig jam, crispy onions and parsley. Pure elegance, in hot dog form. And whatever your choice, you can load up your dog with a choice of caramelised onion, chillies, sauerkraut, pickles and Gruyère cheese — and even with a shot of schnapps on the side.

What’s more, from this September you can enjoy the Engel Hot Dog and Beer combo: just £15 gets you Der Klassiker plus an ice cold pint. The bar is also topping its menu with a double-whammy of delicious new dogs: Der Amerikaner — think toppings of American cheese, crispy bacon, red onion, pickled gherkin, ketchup and mustard; and Der Berliner — finished with sauerkraut, curry ketchup, rösti, curry powder and crispy shallots. “For something heartier,” says Engel, “we’re introducing a new Steak Frites with a glass of red wine or, for seafood lovers, Seabass with a gem salad and a glass of white wine.” Both are available for £25 from the 9th of September.
