Expeditions To Inspire
Boodles and Montblanc go in search of adventure.
Summer sees our luxury brands voyage out to draw inspiration from the thrill of new horizons. Boodles’ takes a family journey around Africa to “capture the vibrancy, energy and spirit” of the continent. The result is a stunning new collection of high jewellery that marks the third chapter in its series of travel-themed collections, which in the past have charted routes around Europe β and even the world. Meanwhile, Montblanc teams up with iconic filmmaker Wes Anderson on a new short film that celebrates the pioneering spirit of the brand, while releasing a special writing instrument that pays tribute to the director’s singular cinematic style.

“Boodles has always been about joy and discovery,” says President Roger Wainright, “and we like to think this collection celebrates just that.” Nowhere is this clearer than the pair of African Sunset Rings: with 694 precious stones between them, centred around a breathtaking 21.33 carat tanzanite (acquired especially on the trip) and 20.39 carat pink tourmaline. “These form our African βsunsβ, which in profile you can see setting through the branches of a baobab tree,” explains the brand.

“Angular, symmetrical, intricately designed, Wes Anderson films are known for their exquisite style and panache,” says Montblanc. The director’s inventiveness is a fine bedfellow for the brand’s own sense of ambition and stylistic flair. And so the director has created, first, a short film that “celebrates the connection between travel and writing”; and second, the SCHREIBERLING. Based on the legendary “baby” pens of the 1910s and ’20s, the design is limited to 1,969 pieces in homage to the year of Anderson’s birth.
