DECK THE HALLS

Interior designer Jo Hamilton on adding a touch of charm and elegance to Christmas decorations

‘For me, a Christmas tree really works if the design is elegant and warm. People will find themselves gravitating towards it because it’s a nice place to be. I’m more minimal when it comes to trees, as I like to see the natural beauty of the tree itself and allow it to be the star of the show rather than the decorations. Nature is a great source of inspiration and I like to go hunting for berries, small branches and anything that will add a bit of Dickensian charm.I much prefer a tree with a monochromatic palette and tend to favour whites and soft metallics for my own. There’s something very elegant and serene about the look.’ Jo Hamilton, Interior designer.

DID YOU KNOW?

In 17th century Germany, some families would hang their Christmas trees upside down as they believed pointing the root towards heaven would imbue it with divine powers.
