WHAT’S INSIDE THE ROYAL EXCHANGE

A meeting place for the modern city, our historic home is many things to many people

Step inside one of London’s grandest historic landmarks to discover breathtaking architecture, luxury boutiques and all-day dining in the heart of the City. Four personalities who frequent The Royal Exchange tell us what makes it such a special place.

London landmark

Jonnie Fielding, London tour guide, Bowl of Chalk

‘The Royal Exchange is a Grade-I listed building, deemed to be a “symbolic centre for commercial life in the City as much as for its architectural quality”. When hosting a tour of the City, I typically approach the building from the street that runs across the back. I deliberately don’t prepare groups for what the interior is like, and their response is usually one of wide-eyed wonderment and awe.’

A place for people

Dr Miranda Brawn, founder and CEO, The Miranda Brawn Diversity Leadership Foundation

‘I’ve worked close to The Royal Exchange for over six years. Its great location, in the heart of the City by Bank station, makes it the perfect place to meet friends, colleagues and clients. It’s also a great shopping spot for personal items and gifts, such as scarves and leather goods from HermĂšs, perfume from Penhaligon’s and teas from Fortnum & Mason. I always feel refreshed after visiting the beautiful building and love the high ceilings of the central courtyard.’

All-day affair

Julien Lanclume, head chef, The Fortnum’s Bar and Restaurant

‘I’ve worked at Fortnum & Mason for over 10 years and I’m so proud to bring a bit of Fortnum’s fun and quirkiness to the City. The Royal Exchange courtyard is so grand and opulent. You can come for a quick breakfast in the morning, then enjoy a business lunch or leisurely afternoon tea, all the way through to after-work cocktails and dinner. The dynamic changes with the time of the day. There’s a wonderful atmosphere.’

Retail therapy

Nick English, co-founder, Bremont

‘Bremont first opened its boutique at The Royal Exchange in 2013. It’s the perfect match; being both luxurious and quintessentially British. We have a variety of customers, from professionals who work in the City to tourists visiting the sights of London – and they like to treat themselves to timepieces that represent principles of British engineering and adventure. The Royal Exchange is an icon and one of the finest landmarks in London and Bremont is grateful to be part of it.’
