The style expert tells us about his Christmas rituals and shares his top picks to give and receive from The Royal Exchange

‘London epitomises Christmas for me. My first time ever in London was as child, being driven at night by my godfather in his convertible to see the city and all its lights. I was mesmerised! It felt like a film set. As an adult I get to shop and have Christmas lunches on that same film set. London is at its best during the festive season, illuminated and magical.

The unknowing, existential crisis that is Christmas this year, makes us crave Christmas traditions and rituals more than ever. My favourite rituals are Christmas shopping combined with a boozy lunch, the annual GQ Christmas work lunch (always unmissable fun) and, of course, the annual family argument!

My festive decorative style is rather like my approach to anything: more is more! I always want the biggest tree with numerous sets of lights and covered in ostentatious decorations. I’m excessive but err on the traditional side, never minimal or modern. Gift wrapping is always themed to coordinate with the tree decorations. I only ever use one style of paper and one colour of ribbon throughout.’
