Everything you need to know about visiting The Royal Exchange and how we are operating to protect the welfare of our visitors and employees

WE ARE OPEN

The Royal Exchange is delighted to announce that some of our boutiques are now open. The welfare of our guests and employees is our top priority. With this is mind we are asking all our visitors to follow a few simple rules, to help keep The Royal Exchange a safer environment for everyone:

  • Please make use of the hand sanitiser provided at the entrance
  • Adhere to social distancing – please keep a safe two metre distance from others
  • Please ask a member of staff if you need any directions or guidance
  • Where possible, please wear a face covering when inside our boutiques

SANITISED SPACES

We will be implementing the three-step – disinfect, protect and purify – Bioprotectus system to treat The Royal Exchange Central Courtyard and bathroom facilities.

Firstly, the spaces will be disinfected using SmartTouch hospital-grade disinfectant.

Then, Bioprotect – a water-based electrostatic mist, also referred to as ‘fog’ – will be applied. This uses antimicrobial technology to protect surfaces and make them non-receptive to microbes for up to 90 days. Swabs will be taken every 30 days to check the treatment is still active.

Finally, we will be providing Bioprotect hydrating hand sanitiser – which offers protection for up to six hours – for all our guests and employees to use.

The Bioprotect system has been deemed safe for use in environments ranging from hospitals to cafeterias, including on surfaces that come into contact with food. We believe this proactive, three-pronged approach will provide the very best protection and peace of mind for all who visit The Royal Exchange.


PERSONALISED SERVICE

To ensure you have the best shopping experience possible, we would like to encourage our customers to make appointments in advance when visiting our boutiques that offer this service. You can find the contact details for all of our retailers, along with details of which boutiques are offering pre-arranged appointment slots, here.

Customers without an appointment – or wishing to visit a boutique that is not operating an appointment system – will still be able to visit The Royal Exchange. Please see below for information on how we will be monitoring access to the building.


CONTROLLED ACCESS

Following government guidelines and advice on social distancing best practice, we will be operating a queueing system to control entry to The Royal Exchange building. We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.

We will be operating a one-way system for access to the internal central courtyard. Visitors will be able to enter through our main entrance on the western steps, outside exit 3 of Bank station, and exit via the eastern entrance at the rear of the building. Our north and south entry points, on Threadneedle Street and Cornhill, will remain closed for the time being.


CONSIDERATE SHOPPING

Security personnel will monitor the entry and exit points to ensure only a safe number of people are inside the central courtyard at anytime. They will also be able to call the inner-boutiques on behalf of customers, to request a timed appointment slot should it be more convenient for you to return at a pre-arranged time. If you wish to visit multiple boutiques during your visit, and have not booked appointments in advance, please liaise with our security personnel who will be able to advise on the next available slot for you to enter each store.


OPENING TIMES

Our boutiques page will be regularly updated to show which of our boutiques are open, their opening times and any additional information about individual boutique policies.


SOCIALLY DISTANCED DINING

The Fortnum’s Bar & Restaurant, situated in our central courtyard, will reopen from Monday 6 July – serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner from 8am – 8pm, Monday to Friday (last orders at 7pm). To ensure your comfort and wellbeing while dining, the Fortnum’s team will be operating a reduced number of tables and guests, reception screens, one designated server per table and the provision of hand sanitiser. The one-way system in operation for visitors to The Royal Exchange central courtyard boutiques will prevent shoppers from entering the dining area unnecessarily.
